The Sport Transparency Index opened registration today for all Sport Stakeholders. Led by SIGA, through its European subsidiary SIGA EUROPE, the project will work to protect the Sport Industry by benchmarking Sport stakeholders including clubs, leagues, national associations, and international governing bodies using universally applicable and appropriate criteria to evaluate, compare and contrast them against Integrity-related, Transparency Indicators.
Sport Stakeholders are encouraged to visit the official website www.sporttindex.eu to register their interest to participate, to be involved or simply to be kept up to date on the results of this game-changing initiative.
The 30-month project, co-funded by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ program, will utilize a robust set of Universal Transparency Indicators to benchmark European Sport, it will:
- Define and articulate a set of common Integrity Indicators applicable to all European Sport Stakeholders.
- Utilize the indicators to create a Transparency Index, objectively assessing European Sport Stakeholders’ levels of transparency in relation to the specified indicators.
- Employ a universal and external evaluation process that enables objective assessments.
- Base evaluations solely on information available on stakeholders’ official websites.
- Design the Index to improve standards by highlighting current capacities and levels of integrity transparency.
- Foster positive change through education, policy recommendations, and knowledge exchange mechanisms.
Dr. Iain Lindsay, SIGA’s Senior Director of Research, Knowledge, and Innovation stated ahead of the launch:
“We are delighted to begin the Stakeholder Engagement phase of the Sport Transparency Index. The initial objectives of this Index are two-fold. Firstly, we want to turn the lights on for Sport Transparency and help map the levels of Good Governance in European Sport as it relates to key Universal Integrity Indicators. Secondly, we want to create the means for Sport Organisations to positively evolve by delivering mechanisms for enhanced knowledge exchange. In these ways this project will work to create a culture of positive evolution that will permeate the entire Sport industry from the ground up. We are working to minimise all barriers to inclusion and to making the project accessible and inclusive for all. As such, I encourage all Sport Stakeholders to register, to get involved and to help us to pave the way for Greater Transparency in Sport”.
