On Day 3 of the Sport Integrity Week, activities extended across three continents with events at Cityscape Global in Saudi Arabia, the Olé Sports Summit Argentina in Buenos Aires, and a #SIGAWomen webinar in the United States, hosted by LaChica Sports & Entertainment.

This expansion brought together global experts to discuss integrity, governance, and professionalization within sport, particularly focusing on football in Latin America.

In Buenos Aires, SIGA hosted its first session at the Olé Sports Summit Argentina, delving into the topic “Challenges in South American Football: Governance and Best Practices.” The panel examined the rising need for integrity-driven governance in South American football as the Sport undergoes further professionalization. The panelists agreed that with clubs, federations, and sports organizations in the region gaining prominence, adopting SIGA’s Universal Standards (Good Governance; Financial Integrity; Sports Betting Integrity; Youth Development & Protection)  has become essential. These standards offer a path to enhanced credibility and operational excellence.

An example of success shared was the São Paulo Futebol Clube (SPFC), which has actively embraced SIGA’s standards. SPFC’s commitment to achieving certification through SIGA’s Independent Rating and Verification System (SIRVS) was highlighted as a model of the positive impact governance can bring to football clubs.

The discussion featured notable speakers:

  • Andres Martin Paton Urich – Legal Advisor, AFA
  • Michele Uva – Director of Social & Environmental Sustainability, UEFA
  • Pablo Perel – Coordinator, Gender and Human Rights Department, Racing Club
  • Roberto Armelin – Executive Director of ESG, Risks, and Compliance, São Paulo FC

Moderated by Vinicius Sousa, Senior Director of Institutional Relations and Strategic Partnerships, SIGA LATIN AMERICA, the panel shared insights on challenges, solutions, and collaborative opportunities for strengthening governance in South American football.
