An ever growing number of Media organisations are joining forces with the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) during the upcoming Sport Integrity Week (#SIW2021) to demonstrate its commitment to supporting greater Integrity Standards throughout all of Sport.
The Sport Integrity Week is the latest SIGA initiative that demonstrates its strong resolve and ambition to spearhead a pioneering global movement to usher Sport towards a new era of enhanced integrity and much needed reform across the entire sports industry. It is therefore quite significant that the Media are coming out in force to #StandWithSIGA.
SIGA has made an open invitation to any, and indeed all, media organisations who are fully committed to greater Integrity in Sport to join this growing collective. The range of issues addressed at the #SIW2021 is vast and impressive, and includes, but is not limited to, tackling corruption, money laundering, illegal betting, racism, gender discrimination, and many others.
As such, SIGA is privileged to announce the following organisations that are joining the Sport Integrity Week (13 – 17 September) as Media Partners. When welcoming these Media Partners, SIGA’s Global CEO Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros emphasised the critical role free press can play to instigate cultural change and overcome the threats and risks to Sport Integrity that SIGA strives to address everyday:
“The media play an essential role in the quest for truth and integrity. We invite every Media organisation in the world to join the Sport Integrity Week as our partners, united by common goals. All involved in the #SIW2021 advocate for urgent and meaningful Integrity reforms, which implies the full implementation of the SIGA Universal Standards on Sport Integrity without any further delay. Making this a reality is our shared vision and our unifying mission.
We are happy to join forces with all relevant Media, and we will continue to broaden our Global Media Partner Network. We have long standing relationships with sports organisations, governments, sponsors, rights holders, and civil society. The addition of these influential Media organisations is another clear indication of SIGA far reaching convening power and firm intent to deliver our vision of Global Sport, built on the foundations of Integrity and free from corruption and any form of abuse”.
Of the many media organisations that have accepted SIGA’s invitation, the Spanish daily sports newspaper As was one of the first to join the movement. Vicente Jimenez, As Director, succinctly spoke for the many like-minded organisations that have become Media Partners for Sport Integrity Week:
“As wants to join the Sport Integrity Week because we want to support good practices in the world of sport, now more than ever. The media can play an important role in defending good governance and responsibility in activities so important as sports. SIGA is a reference in these good practices, and we want to help, because without integrity there is no Sport. In terms of social responsibility, Sport should be a reference to the wider society. There is no better mirror than sport to consolidate integrity as a model of social behaviour”.
