Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, SIGA Global CEO, highlights Portugal NOC’s President relevant services to Sport Integrity
José Manuel Constantino, President of the Portuguese National Olympic Committee, has been handed the SIGA Special Recognition Award, the highest honour conferred for relevant services rendered in the field of Sport Integrity.
The attribution of this Special Recognition Award was approved, by unanimity and acclamation, by both the SIGA Council and the coalition’s supreme organ, the General Assembly, composed of all SIGA members and committed supporters.
The ceremony took place during a high-level event held in Lisbon, Portugal, with the participation of more than 50 guests, including the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport of Portugal, João Paulo Rebelo, the presidents and senior representatives from the most relevant Portuguese sports organisations.
SIGA’s Global CEO, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, emphasised José Manuel Constantino’s contribution to the development of SIGA and the promotion of its reform agenda, and stated:
“Sport needs heroes. Heroes that inspire us and show us that it’s possible to overcome the human condition and reach excellence. About José Manuel Constantino almost everything has been said. He has an impressive collection of well-deserved awards, honours and distinctions. This Special Recognition Award that I have the honour of handing over on behalf of SIGA and the whole international community that we represent, is the one that was missing. It is an invaluable and unique award, which is only granted to those who have rendered the highest services in the field of Sport Integrity. Today, we homage the citizen, the sporting leader, the academic and the intellectual, José Manuel Constantino.”
Grateful for SIGA’s recognition and further committing himself and the Portuguese Olympic Committee to continue supporting SIGA and promoting Sport Integrity, José Manuel Constantino stated:
“Throughout my training and in a significant phase of my professional life, I had the privilege of sharing my life and my thoughts with great individuals. Now, I am only the leader of a team and therefore this prize must be shared with the presidents of the sporting federations and COP’s executives and personel. I thank Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros and SIGA for this special recognition. We all have to be activists for a sport free from suspicions, a sport governed and operated under the highest governance and integrity standards.”
Closing the ceremony, João Paulo Rebelo, Secretary of State for Youth and Sport of Portugal, stated:
“SIGA’s recognition to José Manuel Constantino is absolutely fair. Despite his humility, in saying that the award belongs to the entire COP team, leadership is crucial in all organisations and processes. The COP President embodies the Olympic spirit, of excellence, friendship and respect. These values are increasingly relevant in a world that is becoming dangerously disrupted. SIGA’s actions and values are fundamental, and that is why the Portuguese Government has supported SIGA from the very beginning.”
