The Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA), the largest and most representative independent global organization dedicated to Sport Integrity, has today, through SIGA LATIN AMERICA, signed a significant Technical Cooperation Agreement (TCA) with the Brazilian Ministry of Finance, represented by the Department of Prizes and Betting.
This agreement, further solidifying SIGA’s commitment to advancing Sports Integrity in Brazil, will enable the exchange of information, the monitoring of sports betting systems, and the identification of suspicious activities, including irregular betting patterns that may suggest attempts to compromise the integrity of sporting events and participants in Brazil. This landmark initiative establishes a critical foundation for promoting integrity in fixed-odds sports betting nationwide. It is a proactive response to the expanding sports betting market in Brazil, strengthening regulation while bolstering public trust and sector credibility.
Key objectives of the Technical Cooperation Agreement include:
a) Information Sharing: Exchange of information, expertise, and best practices between the parties, respecting legal confidentiality, with a focus on monitoring the integrity of sports betting.
b) Training and Capacity Building: Conducting regular meetings, conferences, workshops, and training initiatives to increase awareness and knowledge on issues vital to sports integrity.
c) Promotion of SIGA’s Universal Standards: Implementation of SIGA’s Universal Standards on Sport Integrity, with an emphasis on Good Governance, Financial Integrity, and Sports Betting Integrity.
d) Cooperation: Developing constructive relationships with sports organizations, public authorities, betting operators, academia, and other relevant sectors.
SIGA LATIN AMERICA has already led multiple initiatives to advance sports betting integrity across the region. This year, the Permanent Committee for Sports Betting Integrity was established to directly support the development and implementation of best practices. Additionally, SIGA LATIN AMERICA has organized public awareness and training events addressing the threats to sports integrity while promoting dialogue among industry stakeholders.
SIGA LATIN AMERICA stands out for its active betting operator members and for developing a robust set of guidelines to regulate sponsorship contracts between sports betting operators and sports organizations.
The Technical Cooperation Agreement also strengthens SIGA’s collaboration with industry leaders like EPIC Global Solutions and Starlizard Integrity Services, who play a fundamental role in preventing competition manipulation, monitoring sports betting, and addressing the critical topic of sports betting addiction. These partnerships with members of SIGA’s global coalition are essential for advancing effective sports integrity policies and promoting responsible gaming.
Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, Co-founder and Global CEO of SIGA, and Chairman and CEO of SIGA LATIN AMERICA, emphasized SIGA’s commitment to supporting the Brazilian government on this crucial matter:
“Sports betting integrity is one of the fundamental pillars for the healthy and sustainable development of the sports sector, and therefore, for the Brazilian and global economy. We are 100% committed to collaborating with the Brazilian government in this shared mission. Our extensive knowledge and expertise, as well as our Universal Standards and Rating System, are at the disposal of sports organizations, betting operators, regulators, the government, and other economic players, including sponsors, to ensure that sport in Brazil is governed, operated, and practiced to the highest standards of integrity.”
Fred Justo, General Coordinator of Anti-Money Laundering Monitoring at the Ministry of Finance, added:
“We are highly pleased to sign this Technical Cooperation Agreement with SIGA. Knowing that the Brazilian regulator has a reliable ally dedicated to sports and betting integrity gives us confidence, and we believe this partnership will yield great results. Long may it last.”
Regis Dudena, Secretary of Prizes and Betting at the Ministry of Finance, expressed:
“We are confident that this agreement will produce positive outcomes not only for the Department of Prizes and Betting but also for all who uphold the integrity of sports betting.”
