SIGA AND IACA Special Session on Integrity and Anti-Corruption in Sport
At the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption
The Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) and the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) are co-organising a Special Session during the Conference of State Parties to the United Nations Convention on Anti-Corruption.
This biennial conference serves as the principal policymaking body of the UN Convention, dedicated to supporting States parties and signatories in their commitment to implement the Convention and providing policy guidance to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for the development and execution of anti-corruption initiatives.
The promotion of integrity, anti-corruption and compliance in sport has become one of the priorities on the international anti-corruption agenda. COSP adopted two resolutions dealing with sport in 2017 (“Corruption in Sport”) and in 2019 (“Safeguarding Sport from Corruption”). In the Political Declaration of the special session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGASS 2021), the States declared safeguarding sport from corruption as one of their important goals.
Safeguarding sport from corruption has become one of the main priorities of the international anti-corruption agenda. The side-event will discuss the main risks of corruption in sports and offer effective solutions. Leading experts from IACA and SIGA will share best practices and innovative ideas on promoting integrity and compliance in sports and highlight the efforts of international organizations and other stakeholders.
