The SIGA Members, gathered at their General Assembly, have ratified, by unanimity and acclamation, the election of Giovanni Tartaglia Polcini as the new independent and non-executive Chair of the SIGA Council.
The Italian magistrate had been unanimously elected by the Council on 23 February. He succeeds SIGA’s first elected Chair, Franco Frattini, who passed away last year on Christmas Eve.
Giovanni Tartaglia Polcini has been a Public Prosecutor for almost 20 years. Currently, he is the senior Legal Advisor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Coordinator of anti-corruption activities and co-Chair of the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group, and an anti-corruption delegate to the OECD Working Group on Bribery since 2015. He also coordinates several technical assistance programmes – Italy/International Italo-Latin American Organisation (IILA).
Addressing the General Assembly, Giovanni Tartaglia Polcini, stated:
“Sport is a source of inspiration and shared values. A factor of progress and human fulfilment that moves billions of people around the world.
SIGA, for me, represents a dream!
In my life, I always devoted my time and efforts to call for action and press for integrity, transparency and accountability in Sport.
It is therefore an honour for me to serve as Independent Chair of SIGA, following the insight of President Franco Frattini, who was a symbol of multilateralism and legality for my country and Sport.
With this in mind, we will increase efforts to strengthen both the legal and policy framework affecting corruption in sport, to mitigate corruption risks, as well as promoting ethical values, especially among the youth.”
