Geneva, 20 July 2021:  Franco Frattini, Vice President of the Italian Council of State, was reelected today as Chair of the SIGA Council for a second term.

In an extraordinary electoral General Assembly held digitally, due to the Covid-19 constraints, the SIGA members acclaimed the Italian magistrate and the newly elected Council members.

Franco Frattini was appointed Chairman of SIGA for the first time in 2017, adding now four years at the helm of the world’s largest coalition in the field of Sport Integrity to a professional curriculum full of distinguished services rendered at both national and international level. Born in Rome, Italy, he is a highly respected global leader, among other reasons, for tackling organised crime, being a reference in the world of diplomacy, government and sport integrity.

Mohammed Hanzab, founder and Chairman of the International Centre for Sport Security (ICCS), and Densign White, CEO of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF), have been re-conducted. Alison Giordano, Vice President, Global Consumer Marketing & Sponsorships at Mastercard International was elected for the first time. The three will serve as vice-chairs representing Civil Society, Sport and Global Business, respectively.

Eddie Marshbaum, Director of Sports Integrity at Quest (reelection) and João Paulo Almeida, Director General of the National Olympic Committee of Portugal (COP) conclude the list of the Council members elected today.

The 2021-2025 Council will include ex officio the SIGA Global CEO, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, and ad interim Chair of the SIGA Youth Council, Taylor Green.  Finally, the SIGA Champion and member of the SIGA Standing Committee on Gender, Race, Inclusion and Diversity (GRID), Karin Korb was coopted.

In accordance with the SIGA Constitution and in compliance with SIGA’s gender parity rule, three additional female members shall be co-opted to the SIGA Council.

Commenting the results of the Electoral General Assembly, Chairman Franco Frattini stated:

The Covid-19 crisis influenced the first term, but SIGA resisted and has always been able to follow its mission, flagging corruption and improving the awareness-raising for Integrity in Sports. Diversity and inclusion are the keywords for the following term, as SIGA will build on the role of women in sport, on the opportunity to invest in the younger generations, and avoid leaving behind those who have disabilities.”
