Team captains of all Portuguese clubs competing in professional leagues joined Liga Portugal and SIGA, and signed a manifesto for Integrity in Sport.
The landmark joint initiative signals the commitment of Portuguese Professional Football with the Sport Integrity Global Alliance, a groundbreaking partnership that will be formalised during the second day of the Sport Integrity Week, which is taking place from 12 to 16 September, in Cascais, Portugal, at Nova School of Business and Economics – check programme and speakers here.
SIGA’s thought leadership event will see Liga Portugal signing an agreement with the Sport Integrity Global Alliance, committing itself to going through SIGA’s audit system also Known as SIRVS, and assess their level of compliance with SIGA Universal Standards on Sport Integrity.
The kick off of round 6 of both 1st and 2nd tiers of Professional Football was chosen to signal the fact that Liga Portugal “joins SIGA – Sport Integrity Global Alliance, in promoting integrity, fair play, ethics and sports truth, essential values to Football”.
“This initiative is a way of giving a voice to those who fight every day for a better Football, with truth to protect integrity in sport”, Liga Portugal wrote on a note made available on their website.
The players’ letter states that “more than ever, everyone must hold hands and commit to Integrity, being aware that there is no better example for Football than the one given by players”. “We support honest play, based on ethical values, competitions’ integrity, Transparency, Fair Play and truth”, so that, the captains state, “at the end the best may win”.
