The distinction was presented by SIGA’s Global CEO, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, who stated:

“Dr Giovanni Tartaglia Polcini has a long-standing, illustrious career devoted to Justice and the fight against corruption and organised crime. As Chair of the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group he understood that Sport could not tackle corruption by itself. He was pivotal to place Anti-Corruption in Sport at the top of the G20’s priority list. This was a truly game-changing, historical development. It is therefore only logical to award him with our inaugural Leader on Anti-Corruption Award.

Giovanni Tartaglia Polcini stated:

“Thanks to SIGA for this great award. Corruption is a global threat, and Sport is a risk sector. It is crucial to combat any form of corruption in Sport also through an effective multilateral and multi-share-holder approach. The convergence of values of integrity, transparency and accountability will boost effective results on this topic. However, considering the danger of organised crime infiltration in Sport, we are all called to a greater effort. I am sincerely honoured to receive this recognition, which I also accept on behalf of all my collaborators”.
