Highlighting SIGA’s leading role in promoting good governance and gender equity in Sport, SIGA’s Council Chair Franco Frattini, stated:
“I am proud that SIGA is walking the talk when it comes to female leadership in sport. The co-option of two senior female executives like Emine Bozkurt and Haley Price means we are delivering our commitment to gender parity in the composition of our internal organs. Through leading by example we aim to inspire sports organisations to update their governance policies and strive for the Gold Standard of Good Governance in Sport. Diversity of thought truly leads to better results off the field and we look forward to working with our two new Council Members in this new exciting phase of SIGA.”
Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, SIGA Global CEO, added:
“For us, at SIGA, diversity, equal opportunities and inclusion are not words on a page. We mean business and we deliver what we promise. The completion of our Council with the co-option of two senior female leaders like Emine Bozkurt and Haley Price represents a landmark achievement for us. They bring an incredible wealth of thought leadership, knowledge, and expertise to our organisation. Speaking on behalf of the whole SIGA Council and our global community, I welcome them and look forward to working with them. We all do! Here’s to an exciting new phase for SIGA and Sport Integrity alike.
Emine Bozkurt, commented:
“The integrity of sport is undermined by unethical, illicit and criminal activity. That’s why I put integrity in sport, good governance, financial integrity, and sports betting integrity prominently on the European agenda when I was a Member of the European Parliament. That’s why I prepared as Chair of the European Commission’s High-Level Group on Gender Equality in Sport proposals for future actions to the Commission, the Member States, and the sport movement to achieve gender equality in sport. And that’s why I wanted to join SIGA as a Council Member. SIGA is showing a winning mentality by putting gender equality and inclusion on the agenda, and by organising conferences, mentorship programmes on leadership and task-forces. I want SIGA to be a driver for change. Bringing to the table my vast expertise in gender equality in sport, I am proud to be part of that movement as a new SIGA Council member.”
Haley Price stated:
“I am honoured to join the Sport Integrity Global Alliance Council and to work toward ensuring all people can experience the positive impact of sport. I commend SIGA for recognising the gender disparity on its Council and taking action to elevate the voices of women in sport. To paraphrase the great Maya Angelou, we do the best we can until we know better. Then when we know better, we do better. I’m looking forward to stirring up good kinds of trouble on the SIGA Council like taking immediate and actionable steps to create more pathways for people of diverse backgrounds to play, watch, or work in sport and safeguarding integrity in sport. I’m thrilled to work alongside a Council that is motivated to make following the highest ethical standards in sport the norm rather than the exception.”
