Bollywood actress and producer Preeti Jhangiani was one of the mentees of the 2022/23 cycle of the #SIGAWomen Global Mentorship Programme. As co-founder of the Pro Panja League, an arm-wrestling league based in India, she felt the need to improve her skills and knowledge.

Breaking the glass-gender ceiling was one of her goals:

Sport was male-dominated and it was a very different field from what I was used to. My husband, Parvin Dabas, was associated with SIGA. He knew some of the members and he knew of this mentorship. Once I heard about it, I was very, very excited in fact, and keen to learn from some of the women who have higher positions in sport. I was going from being an actor or producer to becoming a sport leader…”

Preeti Jhangiani’s assessment of her experience couldn’t be better. Starting with the connection with her mentor:

I was very, very surprised when I saw my mentor Alejandra Salmeron Garcia. She is senior legal counsel at FIA and was wonderful. She was very honest with her answers, with her advices and experiences. Everything she told me was helpful. In fact, I was in the middle of a very big deal, and questioned her how one would go with it. She gave me some fantastic tips and some very good ideas”.

Taking her experience into consideration, SIGA’s mentee vouches for the programme, as a life-changing opportunity for every woman looking for a career in Sport:

I would really push and encourage other women to join the SIGA Mentorship Programme. You don’t need to be in a leading position or frontline role, but just any position in a sports field… I really recommend the mentorship programme, because I also felt that they read through my resume and what role I had in my company, and then put me in touch with somebody who would be the correct mentor for me”.

Preeti Jhangiani has the firm conviction that the SIGAWomen Mentorship Programme will “create more confident women”, allowing the ones who “want to have a career in Sport not to be afraid”.
