Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) Coordinator Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros and UNESCO Director for Human Rights, Sport and Youth Angela Melo and Chief of Sport and Youth Alexander Schischlik hosted a positive joint meeting with government ministers and senior stakeholders in sport on the side-lines of the MINEPS VI Conference last week in Kazan, Russia.
At the Sixth International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS VI), SIGA Coordinator Medeiros gathered, in what was a very productive and action-orientated meeting, several representatives of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), Ministers, Secretaries of State and other senior government representatives from the Dominican Republic, Greece, Angola, Portugal, Senegal, Mali, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Kenia and the Central-African Republic.
The meeting was hosted jointly by SIGA and UNESCO to discuss and share innovative ways to safeguard the integrity of the sports industry, with a particular focus on the implementation of the Kazan Action Plan, adopted at MINEPS VI.
Ahead of next Wednesday’s second SIGA Sport Integrity Forum in Lisbon, Medeiros also spoke at the invite-only MINEPS VI Expert Forum on Sport Integrity and featured on a panel of high-profile industry experts from the sporting world.
Speaking after MINEPS VI, SIGA Coordinator Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros said:
“It was an honour to participate at MINEPS VI and to meet with some great minds who share the same vision as SIGA. The relation between UNESCO and SIGA is based on mutual respect and recognition. Our relationship is excellent, and the support from UNESCO has been amazing. After the meeting in Kazan, we will see SIGA, UNESCO and governments working together, implementing the SIGA Universal Standards and the Kazan action plan at national and international level.
“At SIGA we are now looking forward to the second edition of our Sport Integrity Forum in Lisbon next week. We will bring together more than 100 leaders from a variety of sectors across the sporting industry to address the most pressing governance and integrity issues facing sport. And UNESCO will be there.”
