The Portuguese Journalists’ Union and Sports Career Podcast are the latest SIGA Media Partners.
As Sport Integrity Week 2022 approaches, the number of media organisations expressing support for SIGA’s vision and mission continues to grow.
In less than a year after its’ inception, the Media Partners base reaches 36 members, touching multiple continents.
The inclusion of the Portuguese Journalists’ Union clearly represents the perception that professionals have of their role in implementing reforms that will increasingly make sport a safe space free of criminal infiltration. Last month, the Hungarian Union of Journalists had already become a member, anticipating this trend.
Luís Filipe Simões, President of the Portuguese Union and himself a journalist for sports daily newspaper, A Bola, commented on the partnership with SIGA:
“Without a free press there is no freedom, and without freedom sport will never be run according to the ethical required standards. Similarly, without Integrity in Sport, the work of journalists will also be undermined. Only by everyone joining forces, SIGA vision will be implemented, for the sake of sportspeople, fans and athletes.”
If the Portuguese Journalists’ Union represents a collective, the other new Media Partner presents itself on the opposite side. The Sports Careers Podcast is a reference podcast, already with nearly 300 broadcasts, and led by Ed Bowers, an entrepreneur who recently joined the SIGA Youth Council.
Ed Bowers, Co-Founder of the Sports Career Academy & Host of The Sports Career Podcast, stated:
“For the last two years, I have been impressed with what SIGA stands for in the Sports Industry. During that time, I wanted to support and promote what they do on The Sports Career Podcast and moderated their Online Events like SIGA Youth Forum back in 2021.
For the last seven years, The Sports Career Podcast has aimed to provide the reality of what it takes to pursue a career in the Sports Industry. Integrity plays a vital role in sports on and off the Sports Field, especially when pursuing a career in sports.
For that reason, we are delighted from the Sports Career Academy that The Sports Career Podcast will be a SIGA Media Partner so we can promote and showcase good practice of integrity towards Sports Career Development Education.”
