As the countdown comes to an end, we are on the brink of the much-anticipated annual Sport Integrity Week (#SIW2023). With the kick-off just one day away, SIGA is thrilled to unveil the comprehensive agenda and provide the latest insights into the upcoming events set to take place across Europe.
In addition to the array of independent thought leqadership events hosted by partners in Portugal, Spain, Italy, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, and Sweden, SIGA is taking the lead in co-organising three major events through its continental subsidiary, SIGA EUROPE.
We are therefore excited to announce the inaugural FOOTBALL INTEGRITY FORUM, which will be hosted by Liga Portugal during its Thinking Football Summit. This high-level Forum, built upon SIGA’s four core pillars — good governance, financial integrity, sports betting integrity, and youth development and protection in sport — aims to explore football’s current state of affairs, future challenges. A gathering of more than 20 distinguished participants, hosted by SIGA EUROPE’s Executive Chairman, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, including SIGA’s Chair and co-Chair of the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group Giovanni Tartaglia Polcini, Richard Weber, former Chief of the Criminal Investigation Division at the IRS, US Department of Treasury, Pedro Proença, President of Liga Portugal, the Technology Executive (former Intel and Microsoft) Sandra Lopez, Roberto Armelin, Chief Legal and Compliance Director of São Paulo FC, Ricardo Domingues of Betclic,Joaquim Evangelista, Vice Chair of FIFPRO Europe and member of UEFA’s Strategy Council, Ivan Bravo, CEO of Aspire Academy, and many others.
The Football Integrity Forum is scheduled for 14:00 on 7 September in Porto, with access reserved exclusively for participants of the Thinking Football Summit.
Preceding this, also in Porto, the morning will witness the high-level Conference – INTEGRITY IN SPORT: THE (NEW) CHALLENGES, which will gather figures including Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto, the RMBS Partners José Ricardo Gonçalves, and Tiago Rodrigues Bastos — alongside representatives from sport, judicial system, law enforcement and civil authorities.
On 6 September, the city of Pombal will publicly put a flag on the map by affirming its status as an European Esports Capital by hosting the first-ever SIGA ESPORTS INTEGRITY FORUM. The event is being co-organised by SIGA EUROPE, Pombal City Council and the World Esports Consortium Europe (WESCO Europe). Alongside the Mayor of Pombal, Pedro Pimpão and SIGA EUROPE’s Executive Chairman Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, key figures including Portuguese and foreign esports authorities, such as Rui Alexandre Jesus, VP of WESCO Europe, Mags Byrne, CEO of Estars, and Tsubasa Shinohara, Human Rights Officer at the Swiss Esports Federation, will contribute to this momentous occasion.
Among the multitude of impactful events organised by SIGA during this 4th annual edition of the Sport Integrity Week, focus goes to the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding, forging crucial partnerships with the Municipality of Pombal and Aspire Academy.
Prominent international entities, including UEFA, G20, Liga Portugal, São Paulo FC, European Rugby League, European Leagues, , Betclic, Portuguese Players Union, and professional clubs like Belenenses and Boavista, alongside IACA, Eurispes, UEFA AAA, CNID, Diario AS, sports federations, trade associations, and numerous others are fully committed to hosting an array of events across the continent. Their continuous efforts and support are instrumental in raising awareness and pressing for the much needed Sport Integrity reforms.
