The Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) is proud to announce that Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, SIGA Global CEO and Chairman and CEO of SIGA LATIN AMERICA, has been appointed to significant new roles with both the B20 Brazil and the European Commission, further expanding SIGA’s global influence in promoting integrity and transparency in sport.
These appointments are a testament to Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros’s Sport Integrity leadership and to SIGA’s dedication to advancing Sport Integrity on a global scale.
B20 Brazil Integrity & Compliance Task Force Appointment
Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros has been named a member of the B20 Brazil Integrity & Compliance Task Force, marking his fourth consecutive year of involvement with the B20. The Integrity & Compliance Task Force actively engages in discussions related to anti-corruption measures, ethical business practices, compliance with regulations, and the promotion of corporate governance that ensures accountability and ethical behaviour within organizations with the goal of upholding the highest standards of business ethics and conduct.
Emanuel’s tenure at the Integrity & Compliance Task Force has seen participation under the Italian (2021) and Indonesian (2022), presidencies. In 2023, under India’s presidency, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros served as a member of the Task Force on Inclusive Global Value Chains for Resilient Global Trade and Investment.
The renewed collaboration, at a personal level, with the B20 reflects a steadfast commitment to enhancing business ethics and anti-corruption measures globally. His role in the task force will involve driving discussions on anti-corruption, compliance, and corporate governance, underscoring the necessity of ethical conduct and accountability in business practices.
This appointment aligns with SIGA’s mission to foster integrity across all sectors, including Sport, where Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros has previously emphasized the critical role of sport in promoting ethical and transparent business practices.
His advocacy for immediate action on Sport Integrity principles within the sports industry highlights the importance of leading by example to address global challenges. In India, during the Partnership Summit 2023, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros urged Sport to take immediate action, and explained how anti-corruption is directly connected with Sport Integrity. European Commission Supra-National Risk Assessment Representation
Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros’s influence will also extend to the European Union, where he has been invited by the European Commission Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union to serve as a designated representative.
In this role, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros will contribute with his personal and SIGA’s expertise on Financial Integrity in Sport to the Supra-National Risk Assessment (SNRA) process, which aims to evaluate and mitigate risks related to money laundering and terrorist financing within the European Union.
The involvement in the SNRA underscores SIGA’s commitment to combating financial crime, and is fully aligned with the objectives and implications of the provisional agreement by the European Council and European Parliament on Anti-Money Laundering: the new legal framework that will force a shift in the way the football industry operates, as professional clubs and agents will be obliged to engage in stricter financial scrutiny to ensure more transparency regarding transactions and ownership structures, amongst a range of other impactful implications.
SIGA’s contribution will be invaluable in enhancing Anti-Money Laundering frameworks and addressing solutions to mitigate vulnerabilities in the financial system. This collaboration will be extended by a series of initiatives, including the upcoming FITS Forum in Europe, with SIGA facilitating a more transparent, accountable, and ethical Sport Eco-System.
Commenting on his new roles, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros expressed commitment to continue pressing for urgent reforms, and expanding SIGA’s mission and vision towards a new era in Sport:
“I accept these nominations with a high sense of responsibility. I welcome the recognition of SIGA’s vital role and its credentials as an independent driving force for greater Integrity in the field of Sport. We have been waiting, for decades now, to see global leadership, robust legislative action, and the courage that is needed to free global Sport, Society and Economy from criminal and unscrupulous influence. I am delighted to assert my personal commitment to succeeding in these roles that stand in direct correlation to SIGA’s overarching mission, vision and our shared Sport Integrity Goals”.
