The SIGA Independent Rating and Verification System (SIRVS) process for the European Rugby League (ERL) has now concluded, and the organisation will be certified on the 23rd of November.

Bronze, Silver or Gold are the three ratings that the ERL can be awarded. The award depends on the result of an independent, rigorous evaluation of ERL’s level of compliance with SIGA’s Universal Standards on Sport Integrity. Good Governance in Sport was the area audited by independent experts from the British Standard Institution, the independent third party to whom SIGA entrusted the operation of SIRVS.

The announcement will be made at a public ceremony, to be held in London, on the 23rd of November.

This heralds the spark of a new era not only in the European Rugby League context, but in the wider sport, and a long overdue paradigm shift throughout the entire sporting industry. The ERL is forging the long overdue move away from self-certification towards independent scrutiny against universally recognised core principles and universal standards of Good Governance. Their bravery and pioneering actions promise to inspire other organisations to follow in their footsteps.

UEFA, FIDE, IMMAF, Qatar Stars League, the Portuguese Olympic Committee and others have already publicly announced their intention to undergo independent scrutiny championed by SIGA. The Portuguese Professional Football League are the latest to join this critical mass by recently committed to becoming a member of SIGA and going through the SIRVS.
