Portuguese regional Football Association of Ponta Delgada president, Robert DaCamara, signed with SIGA’s Global CEO, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, a memorandum of understanding to implement SIGA’s Universal Standards in the Azorean organization.

In a ceremony held in the auditorium of the Association’s headquarters, in the capital of São Miguel Island, Robert DaCamara, and Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros exchanged more than signatures: they shared promises of close cooperation for Integrity to be a vehicle for the growth of football clubs in the islands of São Miguel and Santa Maria.

After the Azorean Government pledged to join SIGA as a member, and in a week marked by the announcement of Gamban, Gambling Blocking Software provider, SIGA keeps growing fast, confirming its leading position in the mission of implementing sport Integrity.

Robert DaCamara
President of Ponta Delgada FA

“We are the first entity in the Azores applying to be part of SIGA, the first district association in the country to become a member. We want to implement good governance, and everything that an alliance with SIGA entails. It is, for us, an enormous satisfaction. We are eager to take advantage of synergies to improve our life as an association and the life of each of our member clubs.

Globally, whenever we start a path, it is exciting. There is something that is a cornerstone of our action: affirming the Ponta Delgada Football Association with the centrality it deserves. Sometimes we reinforce our ultra peripheric condition when in reality we are very central if we look at the world in a certain way. If we look at the Western world, we are in the middle of the two main blocks, America and Europe. If we add to this the Azorean people’s role in the Americas, we are even more central.

This is a sowing action for future crops. Looking at this centrality, taking advantage of a precious instrument, which is SIGA’s knowledge.”

Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros
SIGA Global CEO

“My presence here is not limited to the formality of signing a cooperation agreement. It marks the assumption of the unequivocal, determined, committed, and proactive will of both parties to follow a joint path with a reformist drive, with the conviction of our capabilities and a deep communion of purposes and objectives. All of this is based on the knowledge of reality. Nothing can be achieved without Integrity.

Integrity implies taking a stand against immobility, resignation, against the threats that cloud, compromise and corrupt what football has to offer: the school of values, its ideals, the irreplaceable and unmistakable role it plays in favour of youth, and in character formation.

We have to understand the role of sport in a society going through the most extensive health, economic and social crisis ever, whose end is not yet in sight. There is no country, no family, that has not suffered. In this rebuild, each one needs to assume their role and responsibilities.

Sport, as a school of virtues, must demonstrate it is capable of reforming itself so that it can serve the global economy.

Why did the world adopt the slogan ‘recovering with Integrity’? Because Integrity reflects the priority in managing society’s expectations. It is done not by preaching but by practising. Sports institutions must have the knowledge, which implies being part of a united front where they can exchange experiences and learn from each other.”
