The Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) held today, 5 August 2026, an Extraordinary Leadership Meeting to consider the governance crisis surrounding FIFA and its wider implications for football and Sport.
The meeting brought together SIGA Members, Committed Supporters, Partners and senior stakeholders to assess the serious questions raised concerning institutional accountability, transparency, consultation and trust.
Participants adopted a collective position calling for independent scrutiny and certification to become the norm throughout football and across Sport.
Consistent with the mission it has pursued for nearly a decade, SIGA called on FIFA to voluntarily undertake an independent review of its governance and decision-making processes as a demonstration of its commitment to the highest standards of governance, transparency and accountability.
Such a review would assess the effectiveness of FIFA’s governance framework, identify institutional strengths and weaknesses, and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations for reform. SIGA stands ready to support that process.
The same invitation and support extend to continental confederations, national football associations, leagues, clubs and organisations throughout football and across all other sports.
Public confidence cannot rest on self-assessment or peer review. It requires genuinely independent scrutiny and credible certification. The SIGA Universal Standards on Sport Integrity would provide the benchmark for such reviews. The implementation of any resulting reforms could subsequently be independently assessed and certified through the SIGA Independent Rating and Verification System (SIRVS).
The meeting brought together SIGA Members, Partners and senior stakeholders to assess the serious questions raised concerning institutional accountability, transparency, consultation and trust. Participants adopted a collective position calling for independent scrutiny and certification to become the norm across football and Sport. They also reaffirmed SIGA’s readiness to work with FIFA to strengthen its governance and deliver the independent scrutiny that the football community and supporters have every right to expect.
The same principle must apply throughout football, to continental confederations, national football associations, leagues, clubs and other organisations, and across all other Sports. Public confidence cannot rest on self-assessment or peer review. It requires genuinely independent scrutiny and credible certification.
Through the SIGA Universal Standards on Sport Integrity and the SIGA Independent Rating and Verification System (SIRVS), which is ready to be deployed, SIGA provides the standards, methodology and independent scrutiny needed to translate governance commitments into demonstrable practice.
The meeting concluded with the endorsement of the SIGA objective to ensure the implementation of the objective “Every Sport, in Every Country, SIGA Certified” and called on FIFA, the wider football community and all organisations across Sport committed to meaningful reform, stronger accountability and greater public confidence to come forward and work with SIGA to achieve this.
