The Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) is pleased to announce the election of its new leadership team for the 2025-2029 term, following a unanimous and acclamatory election by the SIGA Council during its Annual General Assembly (AGA) held on 31 July.
Giovanni Tartaglia Policini, a highly respected Italian magistrate and a leading global authority on anti-corruption, has been reconfirmed as independent Chair of the SIGA Council. His reconfirmation underscores his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the integrity of global sport.
Joining Tartaglia Policini are three Vice Chairs:
- Noura Hasan Al Jasmi, President of the UAE Badminton Federation and Board Member of the World Badminton Federation and Asian Badminton Confederation (ABC), has been elected Vice Chair representing the “Sport” stakeholder group;
- Miguel Gouveia de Brito, Chairman & Founding Partner of TrueClinic, has been elected Vice Chair for the “Global Business” stakeholder group; and
- Mohammed Hanzab, President of the International Centre for Sport Security and Save the Dream movement, has been reelected Vice Chair representing “Civil Society.”
Together with Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, SIGA’s co-founder and re-elected Global CEO, the Chair and Vice Chairs will form the Permanent Committee of the SIGA Council. This committee plays a key role in overseeing SIGA’s strategic direction, ensuring effective implementation of policies and advancing sport integrity on a global scale.
The SIGA Council has also appointed its elected members, António José Silva (President of European Aquatics and Vice President of World Aquatics), Densign White (CEO of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation), Athena Constantinou (Founder & CEO of APC Compliance) and Roberto Fiore (Managing Partner of the Italian law firm LP Avvocati) as Co-Chairs of SIGA’s Permanent Committees on Sports Betting Integrity, Gender, Race, Diversity and Inclusion in Sport, Youth Development and Protection in Sport, and Good Governance in Sport, respectively.
As part of its commitment to gender parity, the SIGA Council will include four additional co-opted female leaders for the new term.
In his public statement, Giovanni Tartaglia Policini remarked:
“Today, as we approach a new chapter in SIGA’s leadership, I want to emphasize that sport transcends borders. In times of war, it symbolizes hope; in periods of economic crisis, it offers a pathway to development and human achievement. Sport is not merely an industry; it unites the human race in passion and aspiration. However, for it to fulfill this potential, we must ensure that it remains clean, transparent, and accountable. We must shield it from criminal interests and threats, including organized crime. SIGA has grown tremendously: it has become a global voice, resonating with authority and vigor across continents. Now is the time to devise a comprehensive global strategy to combat corruption in sport. One grounded in method, shared responsibility, and scientific insight”.
