The SIGA Youth Council (SYC) has just released its highly anticipated report, “The SIGA Youth Council Survey: New Perceptions on Sport Integrity.” Following months of extensive research and inclusive collaboration with young sports enthusiasts aged 18-30, the findings are now available for download on SIGA’s website.

The survey results shed light on a significant gap in education and knowledge sharing among young adults interested in Sport. Notably, the respondents recognized the pivotal role that young adults can play in driving positive change within the sports industry. In response to these insights, the SYC has made a compelling recommendation to international sports institutions: to include Youth representatives in its decision-making processes and consider appointing at least one representative from this demographic to key committees dedicated to Sport Integrity.

Taylor Green, Chair of the SIGA Youth Council, commented on the research project:

Instead of talking about young adults in Sport or talking down to young Sport professionals from a peer-reviewed perch, this research project was crafted by a collective of leaders in Sport, ages 18-30. We aspired to lead by example and embark on a project that trusts emerging professionals to know what they expect out of their experiences in Sport, to determine their own definitions of Sport Integrity, and through what means they seek to uphold said standards, policies, and procedures.

The report also highlights recommendations proposed by young sports enthusiasts to promote better understanding of Sport Integrity. These recommendations include appointing youth representatives to organizational committees, enhancing educational programs and conferences focused on ethics and safeguarding in Sport, organizing integrity debates and coaching workshops, increasing media coverage of organizations working for Sport Integrity, and publishing easily accessible articles on social media.

The survey results have underscored the importance of involving young adults in discussions and decisions related to Sport Integrity. The SIGA Youth Council proposes that international institutions consider appointing representatives from the 18-25 age group to key committees dedicated to Sport Integrity, reflecting the desire for a more inclusive approach to shaping the future of sports.

Addressing the SIGA Youth Council, SIGA’s Global CEO Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, stated:

I confirm SIGA’s commitment to implementing the Youth Council recommendations and call upon all sports organizations to do the same. You, the young minds and future leaders in Sport, are the catalysts for change. Your voice matters. Your call for integrity in Sport demands action and results, and your example can and truly inspire others. Thanks for your efforts and for being the torchbearers of this global movement, lighting the way for a brighter, fairer, and credible sporting future.
