Sports Innovation Lab joined SIGA as a member in March 2023. Angela Ruggiero, CEO and Co-Founder, accepted to participate in a three-question video interview, and shared her views on Sport Integrity and the partnership:.

“I believe that Sport plays a pivotal role in society. It is a reflection of society and culture. Therefore we need to do everything possible to keep it safe. There’s a lot of risk facing sport today, whether it’s abuse in Sport for the athletes, whether it’s harassment and discrimination that comes within Sport, within fandom. I want it to flourish, I want it to be a big business, but I want us to, as an industry, make sure that it reflects the society we all want.

“At Sports Innovation Lab, we look at fan data, we look at fan behaviour and we try to analyse mainly through purchasing behaviour. Therefore, we know what are the things that sport fans and brands are willing to support financially. So we often hear that sports properties are unwilling to change the way they do business due to fear of alienating their existing fan base. But what we’re trying to do is actually use the objective data we have on fans and their actual commercial behaviour and showcase that some of those views are unfounded and that there’s actually an opportunity to grow and lean into fandom by authentically embracing and promoting social responsibility and environmental responsibility”.

“Sports Innovation Lab decided that SIGA is a group we wanted to join. We were excited to be a member because our mission is actually to empower the sports industry to be a better version of itself. We use that through data and insights, and again, this group is perfectly suited to do that in a different way. We want sports to be more engaging, more inclusive, more equitable, more innovative, more sustainable. My job and our company’s job is to ensure that Sport is a better version of itself each and every day. We are proud to stand with SIGA and be, hopefully, a small part of its success with contributions of our data and our insights around the global sports industry”.
