Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, Co-Founder of the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) and current Global Chief Executive Officer, has formally announced his re-candidacy for the position of SIGA Global CEO for the 2026–2030 term, in accordance with the SIGA Constitution.
The announcement comes as part of SIGA’s 2026 electoral process, which has now formally opened. The process will determine the election of the SIGA Global CEO, as well as the members of the Ethics Committee and the Audit & Compliance Committee. It is governed by the SIGA Constitution and Electoral Regulations, and is overseen by an Ad Hoc Electoral Committee, tasked with ensuring independence, transparency, and the proper conduct of the elections and Ethics Committee.
The election of the Global CEO is conducted through a two-stage process. The Global CEO is first elected by the SIGA Council, and the result is subsequently submitted to the SIGA General Assembly for ratification by a qualified majority of two thirds, as required by the SIGA Constitution. This strengthened majority reflects the strategic importance of the role and ensures that the appointment commands broad support across SIGA’s membership.
The deadline for the submission of candidacies is 11 March. The SIGA Council vote will take place on 16 March, followed by the convening of the SIGA General Assembly to ratify the results on 26 March.
In a video message accompanying his public announcement, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros framed his re-candidacy around “delivery, accountability, and decisive action in advancing sport integrity worldwide”. He emphasized that “challenges in global sport arise from choices made or choices avoided” and that “real progress depends on embedding integrity at the heart of governance and organisational culture”.
Positioning SIGA as a global leader willing to act by example, he highlighted the organisation’s role as a global platform for “commitment, credibility, and measurable results”, and presented his candidacy as a pledge to “deliver SIGA’s reform agenda, strengthen transparency and accountability, and establish lasting standards of integrity across the sport ecosystem”. He also called on the broader sporting community – including sports bodies, governments, international organisations, global business, and civil society – to assume responsibility and actively contribute to a “culture of integrity and accountability in Sport”.
If elected, this term would represent his third and final mandate as SIGA Global CEO, following his election by unanimity and acclamation by the SIGA Council and General Assembly in 2018 and 2022.
