The Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Yale University on “Female Athletes: Fashion, Governance, and Equity.”

This announcement is deliberately taking place on the fiftieth anniversary of Title IX, American legislation that enshrines principles of equality and inclusion, to protect students and employees from sexual and gender-based harassment.

This first-of-its-kind capstone course with the Jackson School of Global Affairs at Yale commences in Fall 2022 and is a springboard to advancing research in this area.

Students will  examine real world issues at the crossroads of Sport and Fashion, covering topics from sustainability and fair labor practices to entrepreneurship, good governance and integrity and the role of the media to promote diversity and inclusion in Sport.

This course is a key component of SIGA’s educational programs to advance good governance in Sport as part of its wider university network.

Katie Simmonds, SIGA Global COO and #SIGAWomen Managing Director, stated:

Sport and fashion are powerful worlds that have the capacity to educate, empower and encourage cultural change.

Brought together by SIGA in partnership with Yale, this innovative new capstone course on “Female Athletes: Fashion, Governance, and Equity,” bridges both industries, providing students with a unique set of tools, unrivalled expertise and the necessary leadership skills to make the difference in this increasingly competitive sector.

On behalf of SIGA and the SIGAWomen Programme we remain committed to continuing advancing good governance in sport and empowering female leadership at all levels and sectors of the sports industry.”

Dr. Mary Davis, Capstone Professor, stated:

For athletes, clothing that is functional and distinctive is crucial for performance and for the establishment of definitive image. On the fashion side, sports style and athleisure are the dominant forces in the marketplace. The economic impact across these fields is massive and the need for equity and inclusivity at all levels is urgent.

The Jackson School of Global Affairs at Yale is therefore delighted to join forces with SIGA, the world’s leading organisation on Sport Integrity to deliver this cutting edge course with the common goal of driving cultural change and shaping the next generation of leaders in the industry.
