To mark the culmination of the inaugural International Anti-Corruption Week, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, Global CEO of the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA), has announced the launch of a Sports Transparency Index.

The Sport Transparency Index is an innovative tool to objectively rank, compare and contrast base transparency levels within Sport in order to facilitate, measure and improve minimum standards of good governance and integrity in the sector.

This project is funded by the European Commission, through the Erasmus+ programme, and will see SIGA lead a collaboration of 15 pioneering organisations from over 10 European nations.

This 30-month project, which will begin in 2023, will create the mechanism to evaluate European Sport Stakeholders, including Clubs, Leagues, National Associations and International Governing Bodies against a robust set of Universal Transparency Indicators.

The ambitious project will map the European Sport Transparency landscape and deliver both the mechanism to evaluate levels of transparency of good governance and the means for the Sport industry to enhance the way it operates. The deliverables include, amongst others, a publicly available Sport Transparency Index, a range of Digital Training Packages to enable knowledge exchange and a set of Policy Recommendations that will combine to facilitate greater Integrity throughout European Sport.

A comprehensive announcement will follow in January 2023.

Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, SIGA Global CEO, stated at the culmination of SIGA’s International Anti-Corruption Week:

“On behalf of SIGA and all our partners across Europe, I am proud to officially announce the launch of this game changing initiative: The Sport Transparency Index. I could not think of a stronger and more symbolic way to conclude this extraordinary Anti-Corruption Week!

This is a critical milestone, not just for SIGA and our global community, but, equally, for European Sport and the wider industry.

We thank the European Commission for their institutional recognition and financial support. The purpose of the Sport Transparency Index is to turn the lights on for Sport Integrity and Transparency, and that is precisely what we will do. I am delighted that the European Commission and our delivery partners share our vision, and I have no doubt our collective action will lead directly to positive Integrity reforms throughout European Sport and beyond.”
