SIGA Universal Standards on Youth Development and Protection in Sport were officially launched during the Sport Integrity Week 2022, held in Portugal, between 12 and 16 September.
Led by SIGA AMERICA, the initiative was driven by a high-level task force consisting of subject matter specialists from a wide range of stakeholders, including sport, government and youth-serving organisations.
The Members of the Task Force contributing to the development of the SIGA Universal Standards include experts from leading organisations, and mobilised the sporting industry across the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.
During the launch ceremony, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, SIGA Global CEO stated:
“The SIGA Universal Standards stand on their own two feet as the silver bullet to service sport and the wider community. Sport requires integrity, because Sport without integrity is not sport, it is a shame.
What is a vision without tangible pillars, without a road map? These Universal Standards were laid down by a group of visionary leaders, who dedicated hours to craft the perfect standards, that respond to every single challenge, question, or threat we could see in the way organisations govern themselves.
SIGA Universal Standards are the silver bullet, not from a government, not from a sports governing body but from a truly global independent multi-stakeholder coalition committed to service sport, not to judge, not to shame, but rather to inspire”.

SIW2022 was also the stage for an enlightening debate on the same topic.
“Standing on the Shoulders of Giants” was the title of panel 5, in which participated the following speakers:
